Organizations and Normative Agents

چکیده
The overall behavior of multiagent systems can be controlled by designing agent organizations and allowable interactions between autonomous and goal directed agents such as 3APL agents. The rules of behavior for individual agents are described using concepts from organization theories such as roles and norms. In this paper, a framework for agent organization is discussed and its related concepts such as norms and roles are formalized. It is argued that organizational roles and norms influence and determine the goals of individual agents whenever they are involved in the corresponding organization. Some formal properties of the relation between individual agents and their organizations is presented.

Controlling Multi-Party Interaction within Normative Multi-Agent Organizations
Multi-party communications taking place within organizations lead to different interaction modes between agents (e.g. (in)direct communication between roles, (in)direct communication restricted to a group, etc). Fully normative organisations need to regulate and control those modes as they do for agents’ behaviors. This paper proposes to extend the normative organization model Moise in order to...
متن کاملModeling Control Mechanisms with Normative Multiagent Systems: The Case of the Renewables Obligation
This paper is about control mechanisms for virtual organizations. As a case study, we discuss the Renewables Obligation (RO), a control mechanism that was introduced in the United Kingdom to stimulate the production of renewable energy. We apply a conceptual model based on normative multiagent systems (NMAS). We propose to model both the participants and the normative system as autonomous agent...
متن کاملNormative Multi-Agent Organizations: Modeling, Support and Control, Draft Version
In the last years, social and organizational aspects of agency have become a major issue in multi-agent systems’ research. Recent applications of MAS enforce the need of using these aspects in order to ensure some social order within these systems. Tools to control and regulate the overall functioning of the system are needed in order to enforce global laws on the autonomous agents operating in...
متن کاملOrganizations as Socially Constructed Agents in the Agent Oriented Paradigm
In this paper we propose a new role for the agent metaphor in the definition of the organizational structure of multiagent systems. The agent metaphor is extended to consider as agents also social entities like organizations, groups and normative systems, so that mental attitudes can be attributed to them beliefs, desires and goals and also an autonomous and proactive behavior. We show how the ...
متن کاملOrganizations in Artificial Social Systems
In this paper we introduce organizations and roles in Shoham and Tennenholtz’ artificial social systems, using a normative system. We model how real agents determine the behavior of organizations by playing roles in the organization, and how the organization controls the behavior of agents playing a role in it. We consider the design of an organization in terms of roles and the assignment of ag...
